    Social intra-organizational connection: eïŹ€ects in three relational domains

    Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to present the construct of social intra-organizational connection (SIC). This construct reïŹ‚ects the extent to which a focal actor believes his alters present behaviors of social inclusion in relation to himself. This assessment compares the ego’s expectations of being included and the behavior of inclusion performed by those alters with whom the actor has more frequent interactions. The effects of this construct are tested in the organizational domain regarding the intention to leave, in the domain of co-workers regarding cooperation and in the family domain regarding work–family conïŹ‚ict. Design/methodology/approach – The survey data were collected from 380 Brazilian workers. Findings – The results conïŹrmed the effects of SIC in the relational domain of the organization through the variation in the focal actor’s intention to leave. In the sphere of coworkers, the effects of SIC were found in the variation of the degree of cooperation. In the family sphere, SIC had an inïŹ‚uence upon the intensity of the work–family conïŹ‚ict. Originality/value – The research indicates that the behavior of making direct contacts and more frequent interactions by the focal actor extends to other relational spheres through the transitions of the organizational member between the domains of organization, coworkers and family. This paper draws attention to the need to consider the local networks, both within and beyond the organization, and their effects on each other

O algoritmo memĂ©tico pode ser aplicado a uma rede logĂ­stica existente, no sentido de otimizar a sua configuração ou, se necessĂĄrio, pode ser utilizado para criar uma rede logĂ­stica de raiz. A produção pode ser internalizada e Ă© permitido o envio direto de produtos para os clientes. Neste problema, as capacidades das diferentes infraestruturas podem ser expandidas ao longo do perĂ­odo temporal. Caso se trate uma infraestrutura jĂĄ existente, apĂłs uma expansĂŁo, jĂĄ nĂŁo pode ser encerrada. Sempre que se abre uma nova infraestrutura, a mesma tambĂ©m nĂŁo pode ser encerrada. A heurĂ­stica Ă© capaz de determinar o nĂșmero e localizaçÔes das infraestrutura a operar, as capacidades e o fluxo de mercadoria na rede logĂ­stica.This thesis describes a memetic algorithm applied to the design of a three-echelon logistics network over multiple periods with transportation mode selection and outsourcing. The memetic algorithm can be applied to an existing supply chain in order to obtain an optimized configuration or, if required, it can be used to define a new logistics network. In addition, production can be outsourced and direct shipments of products to customer zones are possible. In this problem, the capacity of an existing or new facility can be expanded over the time horizon. In this case, the facility cannot be closed. Existing facilities, once closed, cannot be reopened. New facilities cannot be closed, once opened. The heuristic is able to determine the number and locations of facilities (i.e. plants and warehouses), capacity levels as well as the flow of products throughout the supply chain

    O objetivo do artigo Ă© analisar a utilização da RegressĂŁo MĂșltipla via Quadratic Assignment Procedure (QAP) para testar hipĂłteses sobre a semelhança no comportamento dos atores sociais utilizando medidas diĂĄdicas. Destaca-se que os dados empregados na aplicação da tĂ©cnica figuram como exemplo das potencialidades e dificuldades no tratamento de dados relacionais. Discutem-se os diferentes nĂ­veis de anĂĄlise da AnĂĄlise de Redes Sociais (ARS) e como o nĂ­vel da dĂ­ade pode contribuir para as pesquisas em CiĂȘncias Sociais. O procedimento QAP para a avaliação da relação entre matrizes Ă© discutido. Para se analisar a aplicação da tĂ©cnica Ă© apresentado um exemplo empĂ­rico utilizando dados de um survey realizada para obtenção de variĂĄveis relacionais e dados de atributos que caracterizaram a interação entre sessenta pastores de congregaçÔes da AssemblĂ©ia de Deus (AD) em Curitiba, Brasil. O resultado das anĂĄlises permitiu as seguintes conclusĂ”es: (a) as transformaçÔes das variĂĄveis Ă© um processo simples, mas requer cuidados, pois parte dos procedimentos Ă© decorrente do julgamento dos pesquisadores, o que pode influenciar o resultado da anĂĄlise; e (b) por ser uma tĂ©cnica pouco utilizada e ainda em avaliação quanto a sua robustez, sugere-se parcimĂŽnia e consideração dos limites na sua aplicação em investigaçÔes sociais.The main objective of this article is to analyze the use of Multiple Regression via Quadratic Assignment Procedure (QAP) in order to test the hypothesis about the similarity in the behavior of social actors by using dyadic measurements. The data used in the empirical analysis is just an example of the possibilities and limitations of the test. The different levels of analysis of the Social Network Analysis are discussed as well as how the dyadic level may contribute to the research in the field of Social Sciences. The QAP procedure to evaluate the relationship between matrices is presented as a solution to the dyadic data analysis. In order to analyze the application of the QAO technique, an empiric example is presented in which the data utilized was obtained from: a survey done in order to gather relational variables and from attributes that characterize the standards of interaction among sixty pastors from different AssemblĂ©ia de Deus (AD) congregations in Curitiba, Brazil. The result of these analyses led to the following conclusions: a) Variable transformation is a simple process, but it requires care and attention, since part of the procedures is a result of the researchers' judgment, and therefore may influence the final result of said analysis; and b) because it is a technique seldom used and still under evaluation when its strength is considered, parsimony and limit consideration are suggested when applying the technique in social investigation

    Social connection in organizations: the effects of local ties on job engagement and performance

    Neste artigo, teve-se como objetivo examinar o efeito dos laços locais dos atores organizacionais em seu grau de engajamento e desempenho no trabalho. O estudo foi realizado por meio de um survey com 249 respondentes. O efeito dos laços locais (i.e., laços do ego) foi analisado por meio do grau de conexão social intraorganizacional. O engajamento foi mensurado nas dimensÔes física, cognitiva e emocional. O desempenho foi representado pelo grau de consecução das tarefas. Os resultados apontam que apenas o engajamento cognitivo e o desempenho são influenciados pelo grau de conexão social intraorganizacional. Tais resultados são explorados nas conclusÔes do artigo.This study examines the effect of local ties of organizational actors on their degree of job engagement and performance. The study carried out a survey with 249 respondents and analyzed the effect of local ties (i.e., ties of the ego) through degrees of intra-organizational social connections. Engagement was measured in physical, cognitive, and emotional dimensions. Performance was represented by the degree of achievement in tasks. The results show that only cognitive engagement and performance are influenced by degrees of intra-organizational social connection. These results are explored in the conclusions of the article.El objetivo del presente trabajo fue examinar el efecto de los vínculos locales de los actores organizacionales en su nivel de compromiso y rendimiento en el trabajo. El estudio fue realizado por medio de un survey con 249 encuestados. Se evaluó el efecto de los vínculos locales (o sea, vínculos del ego) por medio del grado de conexión social intraorganizacional. El compromiso fue medido en las dimensiones física, cognitiva y emocional, y el desempeño fue representado por el grado de cumplimiento de las tareas. Los resultados indican que sólo el compromiso cognitivo y el desempeño estån influenciados por el grado de conexión social intraorganizacional. Se detallan estos resultados en las conclusiones del artículo

    PROPOSING A METHOD TO CREATE METACOGNITIVE SCHOOL EXAMS

    Metacognition is defined as the capacity of the persons to monitor, to regulate and to construct knowledge about their inner processes. Theoretically, this construct is relevant to Education and correlated areas, since the process of learning and knowledge construction involves metacognition. Besides, there are evidences that certain metacognitive components are predictors of academic achievement of the students. Regarding these aspects, this paper proposes a methodology that permits educators to elaborate metacognitive school exams, which are capable of measuring both the students' knowledge of an educational domain (i.e., concepts pertaining to biology, chemistry, history, mathematics, physics, and so on), and the following metacognitive abilities: feeling-of-knowing, monitoring (detection of errors), self-management, and judgment. In this paper, we present the methodology stressing on the steps that enable the teacher to elaborate a school exam capable of measuring a target educational domain, as well as the stated metacognitive abilities. Concomitantly, we apply this methodology, showing the construction of the Metacognitive School Exam in Electrostatics.  Article visualizations
